Oaksey Local History Group

The Oaksey Local History Group was formed in 2012 with the aim of learning more about our village history and sharing the information with our fellow residents. The group meets periodically to discuss future activities, leading to open public meetings and talks on aspects of local history and to publish, where possible, our findings.

The public meetings are held in the Village Hall, and past subjects have included talks on Oaksey in the 50’s, how our parish was settled, the Geology of the Water Park, the Archeology of the Trenches in the First World War, and the Architecture of the village.

Other activities include publishing local history themed calendars, occasional inserts in the Village News, and collecting oral histories of our older residents.

A comprehensive history of the village is nearing completion, which we hope to publish in the near future, and we are assembling an archive of photographs and documents relating to Oaksey.

We welcome new members and anyone interested should contact Fred Price on 01666 577955

“Oaksey Remembered”

The Oaksey Local History Group has published a booklet containing recollections from some of our residents about their memories of Oaksey at the time of the coronation in 1952 with additional text from the late Tim David.
